Character: Lyney
Canon: Genshin Impact - Version 4.0 Update (Post Felis Fuscus Chapter Act 1)
Age: 20-ish (No canon age is given but since he is canonically old enough to go drinking at places that serve alcohol, he is at the very least 18+)
Background Information: Lyney's Wiki page
Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someoneβs first impression would be upon meeting them.
Lyney is a skilled and well-respected magician from the Court of Fontaine, and is described as Fontaine's Great Magician for his skills and popularity. To those who first meet him, they'll see a showman with a love for the spotlight and the dramatic, who's every word entices and flatters as much as it mesmerizes and entertains. Lyney is an entertainer, and is very good at working the crowd and stealing the show, so to speak. He always appears confident and sure of himself, always the one who commands attention, and always seems to know how to put a smile on the face of others with quick wit and honeyed words.
That being said, the flirtatious and flamboyant Lyney is just the mask that Lyney dons when out performing his role. The essence of performance magic is getting people to believe a lie, after all, and Lyney understands this fact intimately. As such, while he seems very easy to get along with and very friendly, Lyney is actually a very private individual. He keeps his cards close to his chest, so to speak, and is quick to banish any worries or concerns with a friendly wave and charming smile. But beneath that smiling facade is a mind at constant work; constantly planning the details of his shows, constantly considering his next mission given to him from the House, and constantly worrying about the well-being of his siblings. Lynette actually states that Lyney may look confident, but he actually gets very nervous before going on stage, and Freminet once got in an argument with Lyney after he said that Lyney "doesn't need to wear a mask all the time." Because of his role as a magician, his secret of being a member of the Fatui, and due to his past experiences, it's hard to break through that showman's persona and get to the core of who Lyney is. To be able to do that would require a great deal of trust indeed.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
Family is a large motivation for Lyney, as well as keeping those he cares for safe. This is shown in multiple ways throughout Lyney's life. As a child, he and his sister Lynette lived on the streets after their parents died and they learned magic from street performers as a way to survive. Lyney also agreed to allow a nobleman to adopt himself and Lynette as a means of getting his sister off the street, and then later agreed to join Arlecchino after she helped free him and his sister from those very same aristocrats who had betrayed them (explained further in the next section). This loyalty to his family and desire to protect them also extends to his new family, the other orphans of the House of the Hearth. He became good friends with the quiet Freminet, and has basically adopted him as his younger brother, speaking on his behalf when the shy introvert's nerves keep him from talking and doing his best to hear Freminet out even when he's busy. According to Freminet, Lyney has also taken it upon himself to take on the "older brother" role to all of the younger kids, doing his best to keep them happy and look out for them. Some of that may be due to his expected succession into Arlecchino's role, but it also stems from a genuine desire to keep his family protected and safe.
This force is so strong, however, that it's instilled in Lyney a drive to do anything to keep his family safe. When he found out that Lynette had essentially been pawned off to another noble by the aristocrat who was supposed to be their guardian, Lyney went to great lengths to track her down, even at the risk of his personal safety. After Lynette received her Vision and began going on solo missions for the House, Lyney wanted to keep on par with her so badly that he asked Arlecchino for a Delusion, which would have given him the same power as a Vision at the risk of his personal health and life; in fact, it's only because of Arlecchino's single question of "would your sister accept this?" that makes him reconsider his request. Lyney's desire to keep that which he deems his safe is also why he's also willing to go along with Arlecchino's mission to steal the Hydro Archon's Gnosis as a means of stopping a prophecy that would see Fontaine sunk underwater, stating that "To us orphans, the only connection we have left to this world, apart from our family, is our homeland."
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
One of Lyney's biggest flaws would probably be his stubbornness and desire for control. He isn't exactly a control freak, per se, but moreso a perfectionist; everything must be perfect. It's part of why he makes his shows so successful, but it also means he tends to take matters into his own hands and do certain tasks personally. This tendency isn't also just because of a perfectionist mindset, but also as a means of self-defence and a result of prior trauma. When he and his sister were young, they became orphans and were later taken in by an aristocrat for their magic talents. Rather than be cared for, they were used and exploited for their magic talents. One night Lyney discovered that his sister Lynette had been given to another noble "as a gift" without Lyney's knowledge, and he tore through the night in a desperate attempt to rescue her. Upon arriving at the estate Lynette was kept at, Lyney learned that Arlecchino had killed the aristocrat before any harm could come to Lynette, as well as killed the noble who had been their 'guardian'. They were then offered a place at the House of the Hearth, given a new lease on life.
This betrayal left traumatic marks on Lyney's mind, and as such he has a very hard time trusting anyone. In fact, he doesn't even fully trust Arlecchino despite what she's done for them, for she could very easily be another person who could betray him down the road. This lack of trust doesn't sit well with Lyney, and in his story quest he explains how his past trauma made it difficult to open up to Cesar, a magician who agreed to teach him and Lynette more refined methods for their magic. The man was genuinely good-hearted and concerned for them, but he kept the man at arm's length, and felt regret for hiding things from him after an accident during one show took Cesar's life. Lyney has stated that "to keep secrets is to put up walls" and makes it clear that Cesar dying without Lyney being able to tell him the truth weighs upon his heart. It's only thanks to the Traveler's assistance that he even begins to open up a little more to others.
4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Did you know he's able to do bullshit like this? Whether it's with his magic or his Vision, I honestly have no idea.
Abilities:
π Experienced Magician - Lyney is a very skilled, famous magician in Fontaine, and the self-proclaimed 'best magician in Teyvat'. Lyney has honed his sleight-of-hand and misdirection skills to help develop his craft, and as such these skills are professional level. Lyney also has a gift of gab, and is able to use his charming words and silver tongue to charm and lower the guard of those he meets.
π Archery Skills - Lyney is a skilled archer, and despite his claims of not being the best fighter he can certainly hold his own in a combat situation
π Vision Wielder - Visions are magic artifacts bestowed upon specific individuals and seen as a sign of having one's ambition recognized by the gods. Lyney's Vision allows him to cast fire and use fire-related elemental magic, which he can weave into both his magic tricks and into his archery
π Pyro Skills - His Vision allows him to use various fire-related skills. Such skills include Card Force Translocation, Bewildering Lights, and Wondrous Trick: Miracle Parade.
π Fatui Training - As a member of the House of the Hearth, Lyney has received training to be a useful member of the Fatui, such as intel gathering, stealth and subterfuge, general combat training, and a willingness to use underhanded measures to obtain desired results. Lyney has also said he will eventually be the successor to his "Father", Arlecchino, in running the House of the Hearth, and has been given extra guidance by Arlecchino for his eventual filling of this role.
π Eye for Detail - Lyney's attention to detail is very high, and oftentimes he goes the extra mile to make sure each and every trick he performs or mission he undertakes be performed perfectly. Even something as small as the type of flower used or the decorations made do not escape Lyney's eye.
Inventory:
π His magician's outfit - complete with top hat and flashy garments, all made to help assist with his magic tricks
π The First Great Magic - Lyney's signature bow
π Pyro Vision
π Magician's Props - Lyney always has some kind of magic props on him. His props will include the following:
- Playing cards (at least 3 deck's worth)
- A magician's magic wand
- Various flowers - upon entry he will have several Lumidouce Bells and a small number of Rainbow Roses
π Rosseland - A cat who tends to hide in Lyney's hat and assist with his magic show. (NOTE: the cat shown in the gif might not actually be Rosseland but actually a puppet that Rosseland performs within, but it's not confirmed as of yet. I will update this once we have confirmation)

ARMADA SELECTION
Lyney will be joining the Corsairs for his time here. His entire persona is revolved around misdirection and distractions, which are skills the Corsairs would absolutely make use of. While he also is willing to follow the rules and keep order when the situation calls for it, his allegiance to the Fatui makes him more leaning towards the less-law-abiding side of things. He's not afraid to do what has to be done for the sake of either a mission or the safety of his family and those he cares for. That being said, he won't deny any Paladins who wish to buy a ticket for his shows!
